Day 1 - Sunday 19th August 2012

Ropley to Tobermory

An early start from Ropley - collected Rosie soon after 5am (sorry to wake you Laurie). An easy drive to Heathrow, and parked up with the incoming morning flights passing overhead.

Nothing much to report - checked in easily, some shopping, onto the flight (very comfortable - is this really Air Canada?) following the route below.

Arrived on time, again all smooth (apart from a delay when the baggage conveyor stopped) then picked up our transport. Slight issue trying to escape from the airport (TomTom hadn't found us and I knew we didn't want to go east '- so we ended up back in the airport!). Anyway, soon onto the main roads, south, west and then north. It wasn't long until we were clear of the city... on a 7 lane single carriageway (middle lane for left turns across the traffic only).

A couple of hours north we stopped for coffee and snacks - at Timmy's of course! (Owen Sound)

Soon afterwards, we saw an old tram converted into a cafe, sporting a huge Coca Cola sign.

The countryside got prettier as we headed up the Bruce Pensinsula (the extension of the Niagara Escarpment), and we passed through pleasant villages, eventually reaching... Tobermory.

James welcomed us (sadly Teresa had to work and cannot join us) and after a cup of tea we took a short hike around a little of the 50 acres they have here. This is a shelter where a black bear hibernates.

Bridget inspects a rock covered in dense moss.

Hiking through the forest - only yards from the house really.

A pond in a small clearing.

Back home, James sits on his porch.

Starry Night Refuge

We felt the need to see what was "under the hood" of our car (very shiny - only 477km on the clock when we picked it up!)

Rosie caught the sun...

Taking things in from the car.

The amazing window in James and Teresa's cottage.

Light through the trees.

The "bunky" where Rosie and Bridget are sleeping.
